Returned -not good with adopters cat- re adopted the same day
Topaz was found as a stray in Los Banos. The shelter contacted us after no one showed up to claim him. Topaz is a very sweet and gentle 1 year old boy. He has a soft, plush coat. The first thing we did once he was safely in our program was to give him a much needed bath.
Topaz is dog friendly and knows only a few commands. He is moderate energy so far, although during our evaluation we discovered that Topaz had an injury to his right rear leg. We are still in the process of getting him evaluated.
Topaz is living in a foster home with two cats. He is cat friendly and will run away if they hiss at him, although if the cat runs, he will give chase. Topaz is learning about crate training and has only had a few accidents in the house. Topaz is very friendly with people and barky at first with meeting new dogs. His foster dad has taught Topaz: sit, down and he is working on stay. German Commands. He says that Topaz is very smart and is a velcro dog who loves to be with his people. If you are sitting on the floor, he’ll ungracefully flop down in your lap. He loves all kinds of attention.
Topaz was moved to another foster home in San Jose. The new, also experienced foster and a nurse, stated that Topaz’s leg has completely healed from the unknown injury. X-rays were taken and it was determined that there was swelling in the knee area but that there was no break or other visible damage to the knee or hip.
Now that Topaz has a clean bill of health, his true colors have started to shine. He is very energetic and needs lots of exercise. He does do well with other dogs off leash but needs a slow introduction, as he lacks socialization and proper dog etiquette upon seeing another dog. He will excitedly bark and pull on the leash. He also gets excited by squirrels and wants to chase them. In the home, he is a typical juvenile delinquent who needs structure, training and a good handler. He will unravel all of the toilet paper from the roll in the bathroom, demand attention, chew on his leash if it is handy and is still puppy mouthy. He has not had any accidents in the new foster home, with lots of potty breaks and structure. He is still working on crate training although it is improving. He will also need a lot of mental and physical stimulation.
Topaz is a level 3 dog and will need an adopter to commit to obedience training and socialization.
