Mia is a 3 year old female black & tan German Shepherd dog with beautiful markings that was an owner surrender to our program.
Mia was very well cared for and loved in her prior home; however, due to life circumstances, they were unable to provide care after she suffered a fracture to her front left leg, and sought out the assistance of GSRNC in helping to save her. Following evaluation, Mia was found to be a great candidate (even though she was experiencing a great deal of pain) and was subsequently accepted into our program, and scheduled for surgical repair of the fracture with our orthopedic surgeon veterinary partner.
Mia has now undergone her surgical procedure, and has recovered well. The external fixator device has been removed, and she will soon be ready to find another loving adoptive home.
Mia can be little exuberant when meeting other dogs, but settles down nicely when this behavior is corrected. In her prior home, she lived with a 6 year old child that she adored.
Mia will need some guidance with respect to basic obedience training. She walks fairly well on leash with a prong collar. After having been on crate rest during her recuperation, she now accepts it as her safe place, but of course, would rather be out and about.
Her interactions with cats or other small critters is unknown at this time.
It will be necessary for an adopter to have experience in raising a GSD or other large working breed dog, as well as begin an obedience course, based upon positive re-enforcement, to help Mia become a well-behaved canine citizen.
Mia is a Level 3 dog being fostered in the Santa Cruz mountains.
Mia’s medical expenses were sponsored by the Cody Fund.
