Motave is a 5-year old all black male German Shepherd dog that was picked up as a stray by Monterey County Animal Services.
Motave is a very sweet boy, who is very social with humans. He was a little bit of a challenge when first leaving the shelter, as it was clear he was not comfortable getting in a car or a crate. However, since arriving in his foster home, he has settled in and accepts his safe haven.
Motave is a very easy dog to have around. He is very quiet, and has not barked at all. He likes being with his people, and is learning how to play with others dogs, but is still quite reserved. He has shown no interest in toys, but we suspect that will change in time. He walks pretty well on leash, but does need more work in this area.
His interactions with children is unknown at this time. However, we suspect he would be fine, but this must be tested. When introduced to the resident kitties, he showed too much interest, so a home without cats or other small critters is a must.
It will be necessary for an adopter to have experience in raising a GSD or other large breed dog, as well as begin an obedience course, based upon positive re-enforcement, to help Motave become a well-behaved canine citizen.
Motave is a Level 3 dog who is being fostered in the Santa Cruz mountains.
