Gracelynn is a 4-year old female black & tan German Shepherd dog that was picked up as a stray by Monterey County Animal Services.

While at the shelter, Gracie was very shy when humans approached her. However, after some time, our evaluator gained her trust, and was able to leash her up. Still being scared and not knowing what was happening, she chose not to interact much, although she really wanted human companionship.

After arriving in her foster home, she was given a good meal and some TLC to help her feel more comfortable, and she began to slowly respond. She did well being crated, and really takes comfort being in the company of other dogs. She even found some strength to play a little after meeting one of her foster sisters. It truly is amazing how just a little TLC can make a wonderful difference in the life of a shelter dog. We hope that in time, as Gracie begins to recover from whatever ordeal she experienced, that she will show interest in toys and become the happy dog she was meant to be.

Gracie will be provided all the care needed to help her heal, and will need a committed, experienced adopter who can provide her lots of TLC and guidance.

Gracie is new to our program, so we will post additional information once we come to know her better.

It will be necessary for an adopter to have experience in raising a GSD or other large working breed dog, as well as begin an obedience course based upon positive re-enforcement to help Gracie become a well-behaved canine citizen.

Gracie is a Level 3 dog being fostered in the Santa Cruz mountains.
