Rizzoli is a 1.5-year old black & tan male German Shepherd dog that was picked up as a stray by Monterey County Animal Services. He is the type of dog that we commonly see in Rescue – one that has not been taught how to behave. He will need a committed adopter willing to provide him guidance and structure.
Rizzo is a big beautiful boy, who is very social with humans. He enjoys running and playing with others dogs, but can be a bit pushy and barky, especially when meeting for the first time. Right now, he just lacks proper doggie manners, but is learning quickly.
It is very clear that Rizzo has never been in a car, as he was extremely hesitant to get in; however, once in his crate, he settled right down and road well. He is a bit of a bulldozer, who needs more work in walking on a leash, and manners, in general.
Rizzo did well his first night in foster care, accepting his crate, where he slept all night without issue.
His interactions with children is unknown at this time. However, due to his size and lack of manners, only older children will be considered in an adoptive home. His reaction to cats and other small critters is unknown at this time.
It will be necessary for an adopter to have experience in raising a GSD or other large breed dog, as well as begin an obedience course, based upon positive re-enforcement, to help Rizzo become a well-behaved canine citizen.
Rizzo is a Level 3 dog who is being fostered in the Santa Cruz mountains.
