Maxton is a very handsome 4.7-year old black & tan male German Shepherd dog that was an owner surrender to our program.

Maxton was much loved in his prior home; however, due to life circumstances, they were unable to keep him, and upon the recommendation of one of our veterinary partners, sought out the assistance of GSRNC in helping to find him another loving home.

Maxton is a reserved gentleman when it comes to other dogs, but now that he is feeling quite comfortable in his foster home, he is beginning to open up and is becoming quite playful. He is most happy being with his humans, so an adoptive home where his people are home more than gone would be best.

Maxton does have some basic obedience training, but would benefit from a refresher course. He is now crate trained (but prefers to be out and about, and can be vocal about it), walks well on a leash with a prong collar, and has great house manners. For such a big dog, he will not hesitate to join you on the couch if allowed.

His reaction to children or small critters has not been tested, so is unknown at the present time. However, due to the fact he is an XL boy, only a home with older children will be considered.

It will be necessary for an adopter to have experience in raising a GSD or other large working breed dog, as well as continue with obedience training, based upon positive re-enforcement, to help Maxton maintain his already great skills, and remain a well-behaved canine citizen.

Maxton is a Level 3 dog who is being fostered in the Santa Cruz area.
