Jupiter SJ is a handsome 1 year old long haired tan and black German Shepherd from (SJACC) where he was picked up as a stray from the streets of San Jose. We don’t know much about Jupiter’s history but if his ear infection is any indication of his how much attention he received, he was not well taken care of.

During his evaluation, it was observed that he was lacking basic manners and seemed to have had zero training on his resume. However, he is playful, friendly and was up for belly rubs and more belly rubs. During his dog on dog meeting with a female, he did fine, even though he seemed a little socially awkward.

He is now getting daily socialization in doggie daycare. He has also recently completed 2 weeks of obedience training. And he participates in structured weekly training sessions with our rescue volunteers.

Jupiter rode well on the drive from the shelter to the kennel, lying quietly in the backseat when he wasn’t sneaking in doggy kisses for the driver. So he knows cars, and knows basic automobile manners such as “…that’s enough, get in back!

Jupiter is a level 3 dog. He does need to gain some much needed weight. He is skinny at 71 pounds and should gain at least 10lbs. Jupiter is a young juvenile who will need structure and continued obedience training. If he can get away with it, he will. He will also need continued socialization with dogs. He is super playful and somewhat pushy, but not dominant.

Once we get Jupiter into a foster family environment we’ll learn a great deal more about his character and will update this information as we go along. Anyone interested in adopting Jupiter must have large dog experience and be committed to taking Jupiter to formal training classes.
